Ten individuals found guilty of cyber-bullying targeting Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has ruled against ten people for carrying out the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the partner of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced accusations of circulating untruths regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to publishing defamatory statements about the pair's age disparity of 24 years.
The court delivered suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the convicted individuals. The full ruling has not yet been published.
A persistent unfounded claim suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a defamation lawsuit in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's identity.
Their legal filing states that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence disproving her claim choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 proclaimed that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her insistence that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she taught at his secondary school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was 54.
